Main Sequence

Here’s what Tony had to say about his experience with Fidelity so far.

Having worked in large FMCG distribution environments, which operated 24 hours a day, for the last 34 years, 20 of which have been in Senior leadership roles, and with the last 7 of those years as DC Operations Manager at Wolseley. I decided to look for a new challenge, this was mainly down to setting myself a target of semi-retiring in 10 years, having made this decision, I did not see myself being content & sufficiently challenged in my previous role for 10 more years.

When the opportunity came up to talk to Fidelity, I nearly overlooked the opportunity, as I as not aware of the company, there was very little information available at the time to be able to research the company, their goals, future direction & culture surrounding the importance of its people. However, despite being a smaller operation & team size than I am used to, something told me to meet with the team to explore the vision & challenges on offer to put my skill set to good use to help grow the business, whilst continuing my own development. I can honestly say, I am so pleased that I went with my gut instinct & met with the team.

During the interview process, I was blown away with the level of engagement, passion & the ambitious plans for growth, customer focus & the commitment on investing not only in the infrastructure, but also in equal measures in the welfare facilities & the team which, is clearly at the heart of everything Fidelity. Everything was centred around people engagement, investment in people looking for innovative ways to stand out from competitors when it comes to attracting, motivating & retaining the team members.

The role was a new role created to help drive the business forward balanced with bringing the team on the continuous improvement journey through strong leadership, motivation & engagement. The role was not simply an Operations Manager role, it was clear from the interviews that the role was split between running the operation, but also being part of decision-making on new clients, and the infrastructure of the building layout.

Having joined Fidelity in April, I was immediately made to feel part of the family and given freedom & time to settle in, along with unquestionable support in rolling out my own ideas & initiatives. Four months on & the only regret I have is not joining this amazing team & facility much sooner. I have always been very passionate & energetic around my roles; however, this role has completely re-energised me. I am extremely excited about the future of Fidelity based on the commitment on investment & growth & the pace and energy at which this is being pursued, I am very proud & happy to be a key player in this journey.
